The Soul of an Octopus: A Surprising Exploration Into the Wonder of Consciousness by Sy Montgomery

This is certainly a book that intrigued me. After reading the back cover, I needed convincing that octopus is not just a blob of something that floats around in the ocean. After reading this book, I was clearly wrong about these amazing creatures!

The Soul of an Octopus is a non-fiction book about the intelligence of octopus. I didn’t even know that this was a thing before reading this book. As mentioned, I just thought that they floated around in the ocean when in fact, octopus can actually recognize faces of their human handlers as well as build relationships with them. On the other hand, octopus can also dislike people and show their distaste in different ways, including shooting ink at them! Montgomery follows the lives of different octopus in their habitat and also interviews the people who care for them.

I absolutely loved this book! I have to admit, I did saw “awwwwww!” out loud a few times while reading!
